PPA Marketing and Management Fundamentals Course

The PPA, Professional Photographers of America, will be holding a marketing and management fundamentals course at it's Atlanta Georgia headquarters on July 19th and 20th, 2008.

This course addresses the marketing and management fundamentals that are central to operating a financially successful professional photography business.

Topics include:

Financial and legal requirements for starting a photography business
Viable photography business models
The components of a business plan
The importance of defining and branding your business concept or niche
Building a business image
Understanding the “marketing mix”
Pricing for profitability
Creating a selling plan
Building adequate business volume
Understanding managerial accounting
Hiring helpers/employees
Developing a workflow plan
Managing the direction of your business

Flashes of Hope

People magazine will be featuring an article about Flashes of Hope in the first April issue. It goes on sale Friday, March 28.

Flashes of Hope is dedicated to creating portraits of children facing life-threatening illness. Many of the ASMP’s, American Society of Media Photographers, chapters and members have contributed to this worthy project.

Philip Jones Griffiths, 1936-2008

Photojournalist Philip Jones Griffiths has died. He was 72.

Griffiths was a member of the Magnum photo agency. He was best known for his work during the Vietnam War.

ASMP Board of Directors

The ASMP, American Society of Media Photographers, has elected a new board of directors.

The new Executive Board for 2008-2009 is as follows:

Pope Benedict XVI Photos

Pope Benedict XVI will be in the United States starting on April 15. He starts out in Washington, and then continues on to New York. The Pope will head back to Rome on April 20th.

The photo service of L'Osservatore Romano, the newspaper of the Vatican, has an extensive archive of photographs of Pope Benedict XVI. The collection will be updated throughout his US visit.
